Baltimore Bead Society members are not just active within our society, but also in your community. Many of our opportunities are referred to as “Outreach”. These events include providing support behind the scenes and at our events in and around the Baltimore-Washington area. Some examples of where you can get involved today:
- Assembling bead supply kits
- Teaching senior citizens
- Teaching or helping teach a class at a local library
- Making jewelry with cancer patients
- Attending seasonal bead shows
- Recruiting new members
- Organizing logistics and admin needs

Teach at American Cancer Society Hope Lodge

At Hope Lodge, our team teaches how to make memory wire bracelets. Our outreach supports those going through treatment and their caregivers.
Volunteers Needed: 2 hour commitment – Third Wednesdays from June-December

Teach at Elkridge Branch

Our annual Spring and Fall Classes are offered in collaboration with our local libraries. We provide the materials, instruction and teachers. These make & take classes are designed as easy for beginner adults (ages 16 years and up), with a modest cost (usually, no fee). Registration is required directly with the Howard County Library system. Most recently, our Morse Code Bracelet class was well-received in the Miller Library in Ellicott City. In 2026, we are officially branching out to teach our first class in April at the Elkridge Library.
Volunteers Needed: 1-3 hour commitment – as needed. We offer Teacher Training in advance of the class.

Display Your Pieces & Set Up Cabinet at Miller Branch
Howard County Library System

We are calling on every member to loan one to three handmade pieces for the locked showcase cabinet in the front lobby of the Library. The “SPRING” themed display will be shown in April.
Methods of Delivery: Loaned pieces should be labeled and put in a bag/container that can easily be identified. Please take a photo of your pieces for a record. (1) Members can bring piece(s) to Paulette Privott at the Best Bead Show March 28-29; (2) Howard County members can coordinate a drop off with Jo Kim; or (3) Members can bring them and help at the Miller Library set-up date.
Volunteers Needed: 1-2 hour commitment – bring your display forms, decor and pieces to help make our Spring and Fall/Winter displays come to life. We need volunteers to help set up, provide handmade pieces and take down the display at the end of the showcase time period.

During the Spring & Fall, we support the bead industry with providing volunteers who assist with donation collection at the registration table and outreach at our BBS Membership Table. Volunteers get to shop and meet the vendors before and after their allotted volunteer slot.
Volunteers Needed: 2 hour commitment – For entrance Registration Table and BBS Membership Table. Our members collect $4/person cash donation at the door to benefit the Baltimore Bead Society. Download Registration Table Instructions. Volunteers are asked to bring and display a selection of finished pieces, works in progress along with samples from our past and upcoming classes.
